New CEDA publication
The Central Dredging Association (CEDA) has issued the latest in a series of information papers, entitled ‘Ecosystem Services and Dredging and Marine Construction’.
It has been produced by the CEDA Working Group on Ecosystem Services (WGES) under the remit of the Environment Commission (CEC). Members of WEGS are scientists and practitioners with a broad range of expertise, representing knowledge institutes, government, manufacturers, ports and contractors.
The concept of ecosystem services (ES) enables a value to be assigned to natural resources that makes it possible to link the environment to human well-being. This has important implications for the planning and management of dredging and marine construction projects. The ES concept is thus a tool for decision making about sustainable development.
This new paper shows how, by applying the ecosystem services concept, the dredging and marine construction sector can deliver benefits both for society and for the natural environment.
