Real-time ocean data boosts vessel operations

The new feature delivers ocean data updates every 15 minutes, providing users with accurate, location-specific insights into sea state and wave height.

Unlike traditional forecasts based on satellite models and averages, Smart Ocean’s system reflects actual, local conditions – a major advancement for navigational aids and operational planning.

Smart Ocean’s technology is proving valuable not just for fisheries, but also for ports, emergency response teams and offshore energy companies – all of whom depend on reliable marine monitoring to ensure safe and efficient vessel operations.

With millions of new ocean data points already collected, users highlight the system’s precision and ease of use.

“During storm Amy I really got to see the value of Smart Ocean’s new wave indicator. It clearly showed how the sea built up in real time far more accurately than the weather forecast,” said fisher and SmartOcean user John Olav Florø-Larsen.

“After the storm I used the app to relocate my pots, which had been moved several hundred metres, with an impressive accuracy within five metres.”

The feature is now active on all SmartOcean buoys globally.
