Monitoring and automation from Böning
German company Böning has developed a new range of monitoring displays that are both compact and stylish. With the display of information becoming more and more focussed on the wheelhouse of workboats the need for compact but informative displays has grown and the new equipment has been developed to meet this demand.
The new system is fully modular so that it can be tailored precisely to the requirements of individual vessels. Apart from the obvious navigation and communication displays that have always been part of the wheelhouse requirements, the Böning system can handle the monitoring of virtually every aspect of a workboat’s operations.
Safety is well covered with a range of detectors for fire and gas detection plus monitoring of doors and windows where required. Crew location and duty rosters are covered with a system that not only locates the positions of the crew but also allows them to be permanently on call as required. Fuel and water systems are fully covered as are bilge monitoring whilst the system can also cover the monitoring and operation of all of the hydraulic systems on board such as flaps and drive trim systems.
Engines and electrical systems are an obvious candidate for inclusion in the monitoring with the display tailored to individual engines equipment and it not only provides warnings and alarms but also a full historical record. Vessel motions can also be covered and this can be a particular benefit to wind farm vessels that are used for crew transport.
In total, this monitors a huge amount of information and the skill of Böning can be seen in the compact displays and logical layout of controls and displays that allows them to be contained within the confines of smaller wheelhouses.
