Nautisk e-publications system

Norwegian chart distributor Nautisk, which also has bases in Hong Kong, Singapore, UK and the US, has introduced a system designed to replace a vessel’s onboard navigational publications library with an electronic database housed on a tablet computer, NaviTab.

Information is presented on a touch-screen Lenovo Think Pad 10 and comes pre-loaded with hundreds of relevant publications which can be updated within a total storage capacity of 120GB. With automatic updating, the system can be used by both shore-based and onboard teams. Its built-in search engine locates the latest available publications in a vessel’s holding and licenses latest editions as and when they become available. Users can also search to find a relevant publication for a particular voyage and also bookmark notes or add their own.

According to Peter Pran, Nautisk’s head of global sales, NaviTab is an all-in-one solution that once purchased, does not require any complex user training, licence costs or upgrade fees. All that is required is an internet connection.
