A glaringly obvious need for sun screens
It is not the hot summer that is leading to northern European wind farm support vessel windows being fitted with sunscreens and film, it is the low lying winter sun.
The Fastnet Swift and Fastnet Tern are two 14m WSFVs with a top speed of 28 knots. Built to transfer crew, equipment and supplies to offshore wind turbines, the sun is often in the line of sight, reflecting off the water to create an uncomfortable and hazardous navigating experience.
Therefore, both vessels have been fitted with six Solasafe cassette sunscreens from Solar Solve Marine at the navigation bridge windows and 10 pieces of film for the passenger and skylight windows. By rejecting up to 92% of the glare, eye strain is significantly reduced and the bridge equipment displays are easier to read, so human errors are less likely to occur. A clear outward view is also maintained to ensure a safer journey.
