Access system soon for sea trials

Houlder’s innovative Turbine Access System (TAS) left the Seawork 2012 quayside and was delivered to South Boats’ Isle of Wight facility, where it now about to be installed on a workboat destined for Turbine Transfers Ltd.

At the moment the very first TAS awaits fitting onto the 24m Cemlyn Bay wind farm support vessel, after which is will be starting sea trials.

“We launched it at last year at Seawork and physically delivered it to South Boats following Seawork this year, so it went straight from the show to the yard on the Isle of Wight,” says Mike Carter of Houlder.

He tells MJ that Turbine Transfer has spotted the new units is going to give an advantage in the field because it means that technicians will be able to step on and off towers with added safety, and in worse conditions than before, “which means there will be more working days as a result”.
