Broadband 4G Radar eyes top prize at Seawork

Marine electronics designer and manufacturer Simrad will be showing its innovative Simrad Broadband 4G Radar to the workboat sector for the first time at Seawork 2012.

Broadband 4G Radar is being evaluated by the operators of many types and sizes of workboats.

Launched last autumn, the Broadband 4G Radar claims a dramatic advance in radar for workboats. Not only does it deliver exceptional short range target separation and resolution right up to the side of a vessel, but it also has a working range of up to 36nm, making it ideal for all types of workboats.

Simple to use and easy to install, the unique features of Broadband 4G Radar suits craft working in fast moving, congested environments as well as being useful for piracy detection, safety and recovery operations. The features include beam sharpening, Target Separation Control, dual range radar and high revolution speeds.

Beam separation significantly improves azimuth resolution (the effective horizontal beam width of the radar) providing the best target resolution of any dome radar available. Target Separation Control allows the user to adjust the levels of target separation according to their needs and, thanks to beam sharpening, can provide resolution up to the equivalent of a 3.5 ft open array radar. Dual range radar has the capability to display dual range combinations from a single scanner and delivers revolution speeds up to 48rpm for high speed updates.

These features along with others, including its extremely low emissions and instant-on capability, mean that Broadband 4G Radar is currently being evaluated by operators of many types and sizes of workboats and commercial vessels, ranging from tugs and survey vessels to police boats.
