Deck equipment package for three new tugs
The three new tug boats that are being built in Unión Naval de Valencia forSalvamento and Seguridad Marítima, (SASEMAR) have been provided with deck machinery by Ibercisa.
The identical tugs, which will each have a bollard pull of 60 tons and Schottel azimuthing propulsion, will be named Sar Mastelero, Sar Gavia and Sar Mesana.
Wenceslao Oliveira of Ibercisa told MJ, ‘The tug owner asked us to install this particular deck equipment configuration because of the flexibility it allows the boats in towing operations. The waterfall winch is particularly useful for many operations that take place in open seas, while in port there are towing actions from both aft and bow.’
The hydraulic waterfall towing winch has a double drum configuration with capacity for 1,000m of 48mm cable. The winch has a 25 ton pull on the first layer and a 15m per minute speed.
This waterfall winch has a braking capacity of 160 tons via an automatic differential band brake, a mechanical action accomplished through Belleville springs (cupped springs) which are activated when the pressure drops. ‘The reason we favour this design for much of our equipment is that it is a simple, safe system, explained Wenceslao Oliveira. ‘To open the brake requires oil pressure from the power pack, so the possibility of failure is minimised. There is also a backup hand pump to open the brakes manually if need be’.
All the winches are fitted with a quick release system. The hydraulic combined towing and anchor winch has a double chain lifter with capacity for 26mm chain and a drum for 300m of 48mm rope. Two warping ends of 430mm are also included.
The statistics are similar to the waterfall unit, the combined winch has a pull on first layer which is also 25 tons with a 15m/min speed and also has the 160 ton band brake.
The third winch is the tugger unit. The drum capacity is for 200m of 24mm cable and it has a 5 ton pull at 15 m/min speed. The vertical capstan has a warping end of 320mm, and 5 tons of pull at the same 15 m/min speed.
The deck equipment package is driven by an electric-hydraulic power-pack which is arranged to drive the equipment via three electro-hydraulic pumps, with motors of 55Kw each.
