Dedicated sailing securely to Vladivostok

The project is being run in partnership with Peters & May’s Russian office, Logistics Department BG.

During September 2012, the city of Vladivostok will be hosting the 2012 Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation conference. The Russian authorities are taking security very seriously for this event, to the extent that they are having four Swedish built Dockstavarvet patrol boats moved from the Baltic Sea, half way around the world to their remote outpost of Vladivostok. Marine transport company Peters & May has been asked to assist with this project and has enlisted the help of its Russian agent Logistics Department Burevestnik.

In order to complete the shipment, Peters & May has chartered a heavy lift vessel to load in the Baltic Sea in the first week of June. This vessel will be capable of lifting the boats direct from the water onto purpose built cradles positioned on the deck of the vessel and can accept boats weighing up to 160 tonnes. Peters & May’s expert loadmasters will secure these boats to the vessel along with a number of other craft, many of them workboats destined for the oil and gas rich island of Sakhalin.

The shipment of these boats is not simply a case of moving cargo from A to B. Both timing and security are of paramount importance. After leaving the Mediterranean and travelling through the Red Sea, the vessel will join a task force convoy to move through the Gulf of Aden between Yemen and Somalia. During this leg of the journey, the vessel will use a number of active and passive security measures, including barbed wire, water cannons and security personnel to ensure that that cargo on board remains safe and the patrol boats arrive in Vladivostok in time for the APEC Conference to go ahead.

The vessel will call at ports in the Baltic, Northern Europe and the Mediterranean before continuing its epic 13,000 mile, 50 day voyage.
