Future-Proof Deck Equipment at SMM
German marine equipment specialist HATLAPA will not have to travel far from its head office at Uetersen to its position on Stand 531 in Hall 12 at SMM 2006. With subsidiaries in Singapore, Shanghai, Cyprus and the UK plus agencies in 35 other countries, HATLAPA supplies deck machinery, compressors and steering gears for all types of merchant marine vessels and workboats on a global basis.
Among other new products on the stand, Wynn Marine has modified and launched its popular D Mk 4 window wiper motor housing ahead of schedule and renamed it the D Mk 5.
One recent installation involved replacing maintenance-intensive electro/hydraulic drives for mooring winches with advanced frequency controlled electric drive systems when the 1980 built, 2,100 TEU boxship Kauai was drydocked for maintenance and repair works at the Nantong Shipyard in China. Modification of the deck equipment was a priority of the owner’s superintendent, who not only wanted the old electro/hydraulic drives replaced but also specified the conversion of the combined anchor and mooring winches with a chain of 68mm/grade 3 and a rope pull of 150kN. The conversion consisted of a completely new drive and a completely new electronic control system supplied by HATLAPA.
