New SARTs extend range for McMurdo
McMurdo Ltd’s Kannad Marine Safelink AIS SART has been granted the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Certificate of Type Approval. In accordance with MCA regulations, the SART can now be fitted to UK flagged vessels.
Designed for the commercial mariner and recreational boater alike, the Safelink Automatic Identification System Search and Rescue Transmitter (AIS SART) is a manual deployment survivor location device intended for use on liferafts or survival craft. It meets IMO SOLAS requirements and is an alternative to a traditional Radar SART.
‘This Type Approval signals the go ahead for sales of this new AIS SART, and the introduction of another new product to the Kannad Marine range’, said McMurdo CEO Jeremy Harrison.
Rugged and compact, the Safelink AIS SART is easy to operate and deploy. It transmits target survivor information to vessels in the vicinity. The alert messages include GPS position information and a serialised identity number. Once activated the Safelink AIS SART transmits continually for a minimum of 96 hours. A built in high precision GPS provides accurate position information to assist in quick recovery of survivors.
The Safelink AIS SART is a portable device packed inside a quick release carry off bag for quick evacuation. Whether wall mounted in the ship’s bridge or packed inside a survival craft the highly visible and buoyant carry case affords maximum protection.
Other news from the company is that it has introduced the very latest Search and Rescue Transponder (SART), the RESCUER 2 to its Kannad Marine range.
The RESCUER 2 is a 9GHz X-band radar transponder, designed to assist in ship and survival craft location during search and rescue operations, in accordance with IMO/GMDSS and SOLAS requirements.
It will operate in the harshest of marine environments. Its shape and quick twist action activation means it can be stored easily, grasped quickly and operated with gloved or cold, wet hands.
Once activated, the RESCUER 2 SART automatically transmits an emergency response signal when a radar signal is received from a ship or aircraft. An emergency signal is then displayed on nearby ships’ radar enabling its position to be pinpointed easily. The signal identifies the survival craft on the radar screen by means of a stream of 12 in-line dots. When in use the RESCUER 2 will remain on standby mode for over 96 hours.
