Onboard boat hangars save space for USCG
US company Vigor Industrial has a long association with the US Coast Guard and is bidding for the contract to design and build the first eleven Offshore Patrol Cutters (OPCs) of its new fleet replacement programme.
Central to the chosen design will be the ability to launch and recover boats in sea states up to 5, which means the boats will have to deal with 4m significant wave height.
Vigor has consequently developed an onboard boat hangar concept to store and maintain smaller craftin a protected environment. This ensures that those boats will be ready when needed.
Vigor is drawing on an overhead davit design for the boat launch and recovery developed by Norwegian headquartered Vestadavit, a company which has experience of challenging North Sea conditions and a good track record of supplying the US Navy. The Vestdavit TBD system (widely used by seismic survey vessels) is well suited to make the best of Vigor’s hangar configuration, especially as the davits are located overhead, an arrangement which frees up deck space around the boats.
