Pneumatic launcher for rescue device
An innovative life saving device that aims to bring people in trouble in the water within reach by giving extra distance to the ‘throw’ is already finding a home with a number of commercial marine companies.
What makes this horseshoe shaped buoy different is that the line thrower is a pneumatic launcher which uses compressed air as a propellant. It is therefore easily refilled, and being non-explosive is totally safe for use in hazardous environments. Since the unit has no expiry dates to worry about this also makes the product more reliable and far more cost effective over time. The primary benefit of the device is that it can be used to launch a line and life saving device to an otherwise unreachable person.
The Rescue Buoy MOB will automatically inflate within two seconds after hitting the water. All parts are re-useable and it is possible to repack the Rescue Buoy for repeated use. Three options are available, a (non-pneumatic) hand held thrower that gives extra ergonomic efficiency and two sizes of pneumatic thrower (small and large).
The unit looks like a large firework or mini rocket launcher. The launch is soft enough to give a minimal amount of recoil but still enough to propel the device. Even the smaller size will propel the Rescue Buoy up to 90m distance.
Although the product is fairly new to the market, Restech has already gained significant sales for the Rescue Buoy, and it has been adopted by shipping fleets, rescue services, commercial fishing vessels, military navies, ferry and cruise operators, oil and gas rigs and many other commercial users.
While the device has been developed by Restech Norway AS, it has found a partner. SeaSafe in the UK will now be manufacturing the core inflatable component, the buoy, which is made out of the same tough vinyl as inflatable lifejacket material, which is SeaSafe’s speciality.
Commenting on this joint venture, David Price of SeaSafe Systems said, ‘The Rescue Buoy is arguably a must have MOB safety device, having so many benefits over other line throwing devices’.
