Renewables network
In the UK, Scotland’s energy sector has embraced an initiative designed to equip it with the knowledge and skills to take the industry to the next level. The launch event of the Young Professionals in Renewables (YPiR) network – which now has almost 500 members – sold out two months in advance, with 160 rising stars from almost 100 organisations signed up, and a 50-strong waiting list.
The event matched up young professionals with established and influential business leaders and aims to build new relationships so knowledge and expertise can be passed to the next generation.
Niall Stuart, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables, said: “Pioneers and innovators helped the renewable energy industry in Scotland grow from practically nothing to a sector which now employs over 11,000 people. We need to ensure their skills, knowledge and expertise are now passed on to the next generation who can take the sector to new heights. Renewable energy is still a relatively a young industry and needs to attract new talent in order to ensure the sector has the skilled workforce which can take up the opportunities, and rise to the challenges, of the decades ahead.”
The YPiR network, a partnership between Scottish Renewables, international law firm Pinsent Masons and renewable energy developer BayWa r.e., has already attracted almost 500 rising stars keen to find a fast track through the renewable energy sector.
