Screens all round optimise efficiency
The attitude to screening ship’s navigation bridges from the sun has changed a lot in two decades.
Paul Hopkins, Solar Solve Marine’s sales and marketing executive explained, “When we first started exporting to South Korea over 20 years ago we only used to supply three screens per vessel as standard. Today we are finding that more often than not the entire bridge is being screened.”
Bearing this out is the latest ship of Stena’s North Sea major investment programme, the Stena Transit. Both this ship and the Stena Transporter have been delivered with 33 Solasafe sunscreens installed at the navigation bridge windows.
Solasolv’s anti-glare, heat rejecting roller screens for navigation bridge windows were chosen for both the Stena Transporter and Stena Transit. This ensures modern computer displays are easier to read, so human errors are less likely to occur. The sunscreens also have impressive heat rejecting properties, reducing up to 87% of the sun’s heat helps reduce fatigue by creating a more comfortable and cooler working environment for the crew while lowering CO2 emissions from air conditioning.
