MCS £4.5m fleet expansion

Maritime Craft Services (MCS) is focusing on the booming offshore windfarm market with £4.5m of funding for the expansion of its fleet and workforce.

'MCS Coromell' is due to be delivered this week

Clydesdale Bank provided MCS with the funding to add two new fast crew supply vessels to its existing fleet of 19 crew transfer vessels, tugs and workboats.

Dirk Kuyt, managing director of MCS, said: “Demand for our vessels has never been stronger. The offshore wind farm sector is booming across the UK and Europe as more developments spring up. That sector in particular is key to our long term plans.”

The second of the two new 26m vessels, MCS Coromell, will be delivered to the company this week and will immediately enter into service on the Greater Gabbard windfarm in the Thames Estuary.

The other vessel, MCS Kaver, is already working on the Bard offshore windfarm in German waters. Both were built by Damen Shipyards in Vietnam and Singapore.

This latest round of funding forms part of a £25m package, which MCS now has in place with the bank and follows the £20m package provided for MCS in 2011 for the purchase of four new vessels.

MCS has been involved in past projects within the offshore windfarm sector, including with Belwind and Thornton Bank near Belgium.
