Cranes bridge the gap from Goole to Hull

The move follows the recent signing of a new ten year agreement between Associated British Ports (ABP) and TransAtlantic UK Ltd, which will result in the latter’s relocation from the Port of Goole to a new bespoke ten acre terminal in King George Dock in Hull.

TransAtlantic UK Ltd is part of the Swedish company Rederi AB TransAtlantic, which provides container shipping operations between Sweden and the UK, roll-on/roll-off and container shipping operations in the Baltic Sea, and ro-ro operations across the Atlantic and along the east coast of the USA.

At over 100 feet high and weighing in at around 600 tons, the cranes drew quite a crowd as they travelled under the Humber Bridge on a barge operated by Netherlands based Muller Dordrecht towed by Muller’s 22.5m LOA, 20 ton bollard pull tug En Avant 7.

The two cranes are a Liebherr LHM 320 mobile harbour crane capable of lifting up to 100 tons and a Liebherr LHM 250 mobile harbour crane capable of lifting up to 64 tons.

The move required a planned clearance of three metres with the agreement of the Humber Bridge Board. The two mobile harbour cranes arrived in Hull and were successfully positioned in their new home.

Matt Jukes the port director at ABP Hull & Goole said, “We are delighted that the relocation of the two mobile harbour cranes went according to plan. The cranes are now fully operational in their new home and will enable TransAtlantic UK Ltd to start handling their vessels at their new terminal in Hull almost immediately.”
