Fairmount Summit tows rig to Canaries
Fairmount Marine’s tug Fairmount Summit delivered the rig Ocean Valiantsafely to the port of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, following a tow of some 3,000 from offshore Cameroon.
The Ocean Valiant is a semi-submersible drilling rig owned by Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc, headquartered in Houston USA. The 1988 built rig is 122m long, 71m wide, 37m high and can accommodate 140 persons.
After connecting to the tow bridle and before departure Fairmount Summit performed heading control to the rig while the rig was retrieving its remaining four anchors.
Fairmount Summit delivered the rig safely at Astican Shipyard and assisted in the berthing manoeuvring of the rig.
Fairmount Marine is a marine contractor for ocean towage and heavy lift transportation, headquartered in Rotterdam. Fairmount’s fleet consists of five modern super tugs of 205 tons bollard pull each, especially designed for long distance towing, a multipurpose support vessel, and a large submersible transport barge.
