Klyne Tugs appoint new MD

The previous managing director of Klyne Tugs, Mr Carl Beare, will remain as an executive director with responsibility for current contractual arrangements and for the development of future contracts and will advise on negotiation and settlement of salvage cases. He will continue to be actively involved in the company in the long term and available in the Lowestoft office or by telephone when travelling.

Carl Beare is well known in the marine industry locally and in the towage and salvage industry. He joined Klyne Tugs from the fishing business in 1982 and worked alongside the original proprietor Roger Klyne to develop the business into a respected world class organisation, becoming managing director in 1999.

Capt Mark Nicholson has spent his entire working life in various branches of shipping. He started as a Cadet with BP Tankers in 1968 and progressed to chief officer before leaving for a career in the offshore industry in 1976 and completing 10 years as master. Capt Nicholson moved into the towage industry in 1990 as group marine superintendent to the Alexandra Towing Company Ltd and has held a variety of posts with the company’s various successors; Howard Smith, Adsteam and Svitzer. He joined J P Knight (Caledonian) Limited in 2008.
