MarineCo boosts fleet with two additional vessels

The vessel was completed by Damen Shipyards in February 2005 as the

Kilp

and is a Damen Stan Tug 2608, one of the significantly improved designs in the Dutch shipyard’s product range. Built to meet the class requirements of Lloyds Register, the vessel measures 26.09m in overall length, with a beam of 7.94m and draft of 3.74m.With coastal and short sea operation in mind, the Marineco Ashanti has one important feature, a powerful propulsion system which delivers a very useful bollard pull of 50.7 tons and a top speed of almost 13 knots. Two Caterpillar 3512B TA HD/B main engines generate a total of 3,500bhp running at 1,600 rpm. Twin Promarin propellers are driven via Reintjes WAF 772 gearboxes with a reduction ratio of 7.087:1. The propellers rotate within 2,375mm diameter Van der Giessen Optima fixed nozzles. Two Caterpillar powered 106kVA generators provide electrical power onboard.

A navigational and communications outfit in the wheelhouse is of a good standard and includes two radars, electronic charting, GPS and autopilot. Accommodation is available for up to 10 persons in two single and four double cabins.

In common with other vessels of this class, there is a large clear afterdeck with towing bollards, a 60 ton SWL Mampaey quick release towhook , a 3 ton capacity capstan and a small stern 30 ton roller. There is space and provision for a towing winch and MarineCo has plans in place to install one as soon as possible.

The other important addition to MarineCo’s fleet is the Marineco Hathi, a brand new Damen MultiCat 2409 delivered by the Damen Shipyard at Hardinxveldt in February of this year. A 23.33m long vessel with a beam of 9.00m,and draft (aft) of around 2.00m, it is fitted out for dredging support, towing, supply, hose handling and survey work. Marineco Hathi meets the MCA rules for a Class 1 vessel and Bureau Veritas 1 3/3 = Tug Coastal area-extended to 60 miles from shore 0 Mach.

This latest MultiCat for MarineCo is a twin screw vessel powered by a pair of Caterpillar 34120 TTA/B diesels running at 1,800 rpm to produce a total of 1,696bhp. The 1,700mm propellers are once again from Promarin and the nozzles Optima. This arrangement gives the craft a bollard pull of 22.5 tons and maximum free running speed of 9 knots.

A Heila HLRM 140-4S deck crane is fitted along with a twin drum Ridderinkhof TW-H 300 anchor handling and towing winch. The latter has a maximum brake holding load of 40 tons and carries 600m of 28mm diameter steel wire rope for towing and a 300m, 32mm diameter work wire. A Brevini tugger winch, a Mampaey tow hook and rollers for and aft are also provided. Marineco Hathi is well equipped to provide on site services such as transportation of deck cargo and fuel and water with dedicated transfer pumps.

The wheelhouse follows the usual Damen style for this type of vessel and incorporates an electronics outfit not dissimilar to that carried by the Marineco Ashanti previously mentioned.

Fully air conditioned and heated accommodation below decks is particularly well fitted, with provision for a crew of up to six persons in four cabins. Facilities include a combined mess/galley and the usual sanitary facilities.
