On 8 November, tug and workboat company Herman Sr BV added two recently constructed Damen Shoalbusters to its fleet. The former DMS Albatross, a Shoalbuster 3209 built in 2011 with 48 tonnes bollard pull, is now the Tarka and DMS Siskin, a 2709 with 40 tonnes bollard pull and built the same year, is now the Brutus. Both were purchased from Damen Marine Services and formerly employed in the Persian Gulf. Herman Sr also has the new Shoalbuster 2509 to be named Bommel under construction and expected to be delivered by Damen Hardinxveld in the next few weeks. Including the existing Shoalbuster Baloe and Multicat Yogi, the company’s fleet will then increase to five vessels.
Ard-Jan Kooren the President and Director of Kotug International has been unanimously awarded the title Port Personality of the Year 2012 by the Rotterdam based foundation Port Personality of the Year (Stichting Havenman/vrouw van het Jaar).This is the first time in the history of the foundation that the son of a Port Personality has been similarly distinguished. Thirteen years ago his father Ton Kooren was awarded Port Personality of the Year 1999. Members of the foundation chose Ard-Jan Kooren as the port personality of 2012 because of his work as an inspired, innovative, modern, sustainable and internationally operating entrepreneur and promoter of the port of Rotterdam. Kooren will officially succeed Port Personality 2011 Gerard Deen in mid-January, 2013.
Tapuhi, a new Damen ASD 2411 compact tug destined for Centreport, Wellington, New Zealand, was launched at the Damen Changde shipyard in China on 14 December. Similar to the Taiki, completed by Damen in 2008, the tug is powered by Caterpillar 3516C TA HD/D main engines delivering a total of 5,600 bhp to give the vessel a bollard pull of 68 tonnes. Centreport also operate two Voith tractor tugs, each with a bollard pull of 28 tonnes
On 1 January 2013 the well known towage company International Transport Contractors (ITC) will operate under the new name of Tschudi Offshore & Towage. ITC was formed in 1973 and has since 2003 been a wholly owned subsidiary in the Tschudi Group, which has traditions and a long family history in shipping dating from 1883. The name change to Tschudi Offshore & Towage will cement the importance of its subsidiary in the Tschudi Group as it continues to grow and move into new markets and business areas. There has been no change in the ITC ‘team’ and the company will continue to provide the same commitment, products and efficient service in the market.
