A pair of new tugs,

Atlantic Beaver

and

Spitfire III, were formally named in October prior to entering service at the Canaport LNG terminal in Saint John, New Brunswick. Built by the Irving Shipyard at Price Edward Isl

and

, Georgetown, the 70 tons bollard pull vessels will be operated by Atlantic Towing

and

their Spanish partner Reyser. The 30.8m tugs were designed specifically for LNG escort

and

ship assist duties

and

are powered by Caterpillar 3516B-HD series II main engines delivering a total of 5,432hp driving Rolls-Royce US255 Z propulsion units.

Captain Mark Nicholson has joined J P Knight (Caledonian) Ltd as Operations Director. Mark is well known in the towage industry. He has experience in the offshore sector

, more recently, Svitzer.

Fairplay Towage of Hamburg has chartered the Italian owned ASD tug Spica, a vessel of 35m in length built by Astilleros Armon in 2007 for Tripnavi of Trieste. Caterpillar 3516 main engines of 5,511 bhp (total) are coupled to Schottel SR 1515 CP propulsion units to achieve a bollard pull of 71 tons

and

a maximum speed of 14 knots. The tug is now in service as the Fairplay 29

and

stationed in Rotterdam.
