UNV deliver ILAN 1 to Haifa
The new Voith tractor tug Ilan 1 was handed over to the Haifa Port Company Ltd on 22 May by the Union Naval Valencia (UNV), one of the Boluda Group Shipyards, after an eleven day delivery voyage across the Mediterranean.
Ilan 1 was built to an established UNV design for a 70 tonnes bollard pull tractor intended primarily for shiphandling in the Israeli port. The vessel was constructed to meet the class requirements for Lloyds Register LRS +100A1 Tug +LMC, UMS, Fire fighting ship 1 with water spray. During construction particular attention was given to noise and vibration reduction and fitting out the tug to a very high standard.
This new addition to the Haifa tug fleet measures 31.50m in length overall, with a beam of 12.50m, a depth of 4.85m and draft of 6.26m. Ilan 1 is powered by two MAN 8L27/38 diesels rated at 2,670 kW each at 800 rpm, a total of approximately 7,160 bhp. Power is transmitted to a pair of Voith Schneider 32R5/265-2 propulsion units, each with five blades and a blade orbit of 3.2m diameter. On trials this powerful tractor tug achieved a maximum steady bollard pull of 73.67 tonnes, exceeding the specified figure of 70 tonnes by a healthy margin. Ilan 1 also has a maximum free running speed of 13 knots.
Electrical power is supplied by two identical MAN-LIAG type D2866 LXE 30 auxiliary generators, each rated 200 kVA at 1,550 rpm.
Ilan 1 is equipped for fire fighting to FiFi 1 standard. A pair of Jason remotely controlled water/foam monitors are mounted on the after superstructure above the winch. Two Jason fire pumps, each with a capacity of 1600 cu/m/hour at 13.5 Bar, are driven by the main engines via step-up gearboxes.
Dedicated tanks are provided to accommodate 139.70 m3 of fuel, 30.70 m3 of fresh water, 33.40 m3 of lubricating oil ,17.00 m3 of foam compound and 9.00 m3 of grey water.
In keeping with common practice aboard Voith tractors of this type, a single towing winch is fitted aft for all shiphandling and other duties. The single drum Hatlapa 100 hydraulically powered winch has one fixed warping head and carries 350m steel wire towline of 50mm diameter. A brake holding load of 1,750 kN is specified on the first layer, and a maximum line pull of 50 – 100 kN on the first layer at 0-30/0-60 m/minute.
For emergency or secondary use a hydraulically operated Ferry quick release tow hook is installed, with a maximum safe working load of 1,516 kN.
All of the accommodation for a crew of six is located above main deck level, with four well appointed cabins, a spacious mess room and well equipped galley. For a powerful tractor of this type the noise and vibration levels have been exceptionally well controlled, with readings of only 58 db in the cabins.
Ilan 1 has a well designed wheelhouse with excellent all round vision from a central control position. The communications and navigational equipment package to GMDSS Area 2 standard includes a radio outfit and echosounder by Sailor, and JRC radar, GPS, Navtex, and AIS.
