Norway’s TrAM project is the world’s first purely battery-driven fast ferry to operate on a multi stop commuter route. The vessel will be built by Norwegian yard Fjellstrand for Kolumbus and will operate in the Stavanger area. Building will start in May -21 and the vessel is due to begin operating in 2022.

Unique CPP system

Servogear Ecoflow Propulsor is a unique controllable pitch propeller (CPP) system for high-speed workboats, fast ferries, offshore vessels and yachts. The concept offers an optimal combination of speed, bollard pull, manoevrability and fuel efficiency. Servogear deliver complete solutions, tailor made for each vessel.

Funded by the European Union’s Horizon2020 Research and Innovation programme, the TrAM project seeks to develop the ferry through advanced modular production.

The project’s website states that new manufacturing methods will contribute to 25% lower production costs and 70% lower engineering costs. It notes that the project is revolutionary both in terms of zero emission technology and manufacturing methods and will contribute to making electric-powered high-speed vessel competitive in terms of both cost and the environment.
