Vigo, 29-12-2024 – AISTER, a leader in the design and manufacture of a range of specialised maritime craft, has completed the delivery of a series of six advanced aluminium patrol boats intended for patrol and surveillance operations along the coast of an undisclosed African nation.
Built with durability, speed, and versatility in mind, these vessels will support a wide range of mission profiles, including rapid-response intervention, law enforcement, and potential search & rescue (SAR) assignments.
Crafted from marine-grade aluminium and featuring a deep-V monohull design these fully custom designed patrol boats are 11.4 metres in length with a 3.5-metre beam, providing unmatched seakeeping capabilities for the challenging coastal environments they will operate in. Driven by twin Mercury SeaPro 4-stroke, 8-cylinder petrol outboard engines with a combined output of 500 HP at 5700 rpm, they have been engineered to provide maximum power and fuel efficiency, able to support extensive daily operations paired with sustainability and minimal operational costs through life.
An essential feature of these boats is a perimeter fender system designed to protect the hull and enhance operational resilience. This system incorporates a hybrid D-profile fender with an evolutive section, built with a closed cell polyethylene core and covered by a highly resilient polyurea film. This advanced design provides outstanding durability and impact absorption, ensuring the patrol boats are equipped to handle the demands of intensive coastal operations safely. Additionally, detachable bespoke bow protection provides increased resistance for the most demanding of missions, specially developed in close collaboration with the Consultant and the fender manufacturer.
Quality has always been a fundamental aspect of AISTER, it is embedded in our DNA and serves as the cornerstone for both the design and build processes of our boats.
From initial conceptual hull lines development, which provides our vessels with the excellent seakeeping and manoeuvrability we are renowned for, through to final commissioning and trials, Quality Assurance is integral to every part of our award-winning business.
This philosophy permeates every aspect of our newbuild projects. From daily fabrication & welding surveys, through system installation integration, paint & specialist coatings inspections, to interior fitout and compartment sign-off, every element of our boats undergoes rigorous scrutiny before earning the AISTER seal of approval.
“Our client has expressed satisfaction with the exceptional performance of these vessels. The final users highlight their superior stability, cost-efficiency, and adaptability to various mission demands,” said Javier Rasilla, Managing Director of AISTER.
Although these patrol boats are designed to operate with a core crew of two, they have accommodation for up to eight personnel for rapid deployment scenarios. The tight build schedule calls for delivery in pairs, which due to the areas they are being deployed in, is being carried out by sea freight. Final commissioning and comprehensive training is being carried out by AISTER at the client’s sites, to provide a tailored handover of the patrol boats to the crews while minimizing impact to the client’s extant critical operations.
The new fleet has already commenced operations in coastal and harbour regions, successfully demonstrating their outstanding capabilities in both surveillance and enforcement activities, with the added flexibility of being able to adapt for SAR missions when required
