The company stocks and supplies pollution equipment including booms, skimmers, spillkits, absorbents, PortBins and also offers a total waste management service.

“We’ve evolved as a company since we started out over 20 years ago,” said Marc van der Zwan, managing director of Zwanny Ltd.

“We work as a one-stop-shop for spill and waste management and can offer off the shelf solutions, as well bespoke requirements.”

Extensive range

One of the newest additions to the UK distribution range is the Swedish-designed and manufactured Foilex micro weir skimmer.

The skimmer is clever - it can be deployed almost anywhere and has the ability to float on the surface of the water sucking up marine oil and other pollutants, including natural ones like algae and pondweed.

Customers have included the Port of London Authority, Orkney Harbour and the UK’s Environment Agency.

These customers are also equipped with other Zwanny supplied products attesting to their faith in the company to handle any spill incident should the need arise.

Another notable product that Zwanny supplies is the PortBin, which Mr van der Zwan said, is the original port receptacle for port waste collection, designed and manufactured by the Norwegian company Spilltech.

It’s an electrically operated waste bin available in different sizes – the largest can hold 1000 litres. Although they have been designed to be fixed assets, the smaller versions are lightweight and can be moved if needed.

These bins can be found at Shoreham Port, in Ramsgate, Orkney, Guernsey, Milford Haven and Swansea.

Spill response

But it’s not all about new products, for Zwanny it’s as much about service too.

As well as its products, Zwanny is known for its customer service being able to react fast providing 24-hour spill support for its customers.

Mr van der Zwan delights in telling us a story about a call he received at 4am in the morning on the day of King Charles III’s coronation, to help with a toxic oil spill.

Another example he gives is Zwanny’s role in cleaning up a factory which was flooded with 6ft water before Christmas last year. The factory took three weeks to clean up if you include Zwanny’s steam clean at the end.

The company also offers training for all its equipment and can issue certificates to confirm training standards are in correct use.
