Kongsberg Maritime has won a contract from the French Navy to deliver ship bridge simulation systems to École Navale in Lanvéoc, near Brest.

The award follows a competitive tender process in which Kongsberg achieved the highest overall technical and commercial evaluation score.

At the heart of the contract is four fully integrated K-Sim Navigation high-fidelity bridge simulators, scheduled for delivery in October 2026. Each simulator will incorporate advanced radar systems and a 270-degree visualisation dome powered by high-resolution projection technology. This configuration is designed to replicate real-world bridge environments with a high degree of physical and operational realism, enabling coordinated team-based training under complex maritime conditions.

The system architecture includes integrated Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) 3D visualisation modules, allowing trainees to transition between immersive and hybrid training modes. Two hybrid bridge setups will support multi-role operational scenarios, while additional desktop-based simulators will be configured specifically for Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) instruction in classroom settings.

One technical component of the project involves the development of customised warship models and geospecific sailing environments that will be tailored to the operational doctrines and mission profiles of the French Navy, enabling scenario-based training that reflects real deployment conditions. The modelling will include ship handling dynamics, sensor integration and mission-specific variables to support advanced tactical exercises.

“This simulator investment will replace our previous training system, and we are pleased that Kongsberg Maritime met our expectations for a high-end training solution,” said Commandant Gabriel, French Navy. “The new simulators will provide access to high-quality simulation technology with advanced navy functionality enabling highly realistic and effective training for our cadets and officers.”

With more than two centuries of institutional history, École Navale is regarded as a leading centre for naval education. The integration of next-generation simulation technologies is expected to enhance its training capabilities, particularly in preparing crews for multi-domain operations in increasingly complex maritime environments.

The deployment underscores a broader shift in naval training toward immersive, software-driven ecosystems that combine real-time simulation, advanced visualisation, and adaptive scenario design to improve decision-making, coordination and mission preparedness.
