On 1 July Hamburg based Fairplay Towage formally purchased all of the shares in the Polish tug company Port-Hol SA of Swinoujscie. Port-Hol S.A. was formed after a reorganisation of the maritime activities of the Port of Swinoujscie in February 2001.
The company operates four of its own tugs, two floating cranes, various smaller craft and manages one fire-fighting tug for the local authorities. Its main business is shiphandling, mooring and marine services, and short sea towage along the coasts of Poland, the Baltic and North Sea. Port-Hol will retain its established identity.
Fairplay Towage first went into business in Poland in 2003, prior to Poland joining the European Union, with the purchase of the Szczecin based company Project Zegluga, followed by the establishment of Fairplay Towage SPz in 2006.
Fairplay’s Polish activities now include, assistance to seagoing ships in Szczecin and the Port of Police in addition to escorting ships on the River Odra between Swinoujscie and Szczecin. With the takeover of Port-Hol, Fairplay will consolidate and combine the towage activities on the River Odra and in the Baltic.
Fairplay’s Polish tugs now frequently support the company’s activities in other German Baltic ports and Project Zegluga also operates a crewing agency that supplies qualified seafarers to Fairplay’s Rotterdam tugs.
