MacGregor will supply a 400-tonne AHC subsea crane for a new floating wind farm construction vessel

The 127-metre new-generation vessel is purpose-built to support windfarm construction, including mooring operations, cable laying and other critical offshore renewables activities, using heavy-lift vessel equipment tailored for floating wind projects.

“This significant contract win underlines MacGregor’s position as one of the few global suppliers capable of delivering AHC subsea cranes of this size and complexity with the track record of proven performance in service,” said Lucie Addicks, executive vice president offshore solutions division, MacGregor.

“This order demonstrates how MacGregor offers not only technically robust and efficient solutions, but also close cooperation with project partners that is backed up by the local presence to support the yard and the ship in service.”

Milestone order

The 400-tonne safe working load Active Heave Compensated crane is among the largest subsea units ordered in recent years and is regarded as a critical component of the vessel’s construction capability.

It will enable precise subsea lifts in dynamic offshore environments, supporting installation tasks central to floating wind farm construction.

MacGregor noted that the under-deck hoist configuration will require close integration with the shipyard Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry Co. Ltd, with local production resources positioned to ensure efficient execution and commissioning.

The crane is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2027, with the vessel following in the second quarter of 2028.

Meanwhile, the vessel’s first deployment is expected to be at the Ulsan Floating Wind Farm Construction site, located 70 km offshore South Korea.
