Damen Shipyards Group has secured a contract with the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces for the build of two ASD Tugs 3212, which wants to strengthen its auxiliary fleet capabilities.
The vessels are being constructed at Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam, with early construction enabled through close cooperation between the two parties.
“Damen is honoured to receive this latest order from the Qatar Emiri Navy. The relationship between our two organisations is one that has endured for more than 40 years already,” said Jan-Jaap Eits, regional sales director Middle East for Damen.
Advanced equipment
The programme supports the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces’ requirement for modern, versatile harbour and offshore support assets.
Damen’s ASD Tug 3212 design measures 32.7 metres in length with a beam of 12.82 metres and delivers 82.4 tonnes of bollard pull ahead and 77.4 tonnes astern. It is designed to provide strong seakeeping performance and high manoeuvrability across operational profiles.
To meet operational demands, Damen is equipping the tugs with advanced deck equipment, including an aft winch and deck crane, alongside Fi-Fi1 firefighting capability. These features enable effective fleet support both in port and offshore environments.
Beyond the vessel build, Damen is providing comprehensive support, including simulation-based training in the Netherlands, on-location training in Qatar and a five-year maintenance and spare parts package, reinforcing a long-standing partnership that dates back to initial tug and support vessel deliveries in 1980.
One tug is already under construction and scheduled for delivery later this year. A keel-laying ceremony for the second tug was held in December, with delivery planned for the second quarter of 2027.
