Kongsberg Maritime has secured a contract to supply integrated technology and equipment for a new multi-purpose deep-water installation and construction vessel to be owned and operated by Solstad Offshore and SBM Offshore.
The vessel will be built in China and is designed for installation, subsea construction and other offshore operations, with capabilities including mooring installation.
Kongsberg Maritime’s package includes anchor-handling winches, shark jaws and tow pins for chains up to 220 mm, along with a low-tilt ROV launch and recovery system. The company will also supply dynamic positioning, thruster control, navigation, bridge and automation systems.
The power and energy package comprises switchboards, generators, propulsion motors and a battery energy storage system. Propulsion will include twin controllable-pitch propeller shaftlines, azimuth thrusters, rudders and a complete thruster package.
“The winch package includes what is expected to be the world’s largest anchor-handling winch, together with two heavy-duty active heave-compensated lifting winches engineered to handle extreme loads with exceptional precision,” said Runar Hjelle, head of sales, offshore handling, at Kongsberg Maritime.
“By combining energy management, propulsion, dynamic positioning and advanced deck machinery into one coordinated solution, we enable safer and more efficient offshore operations,” said Kongsberg Maritime president Lisa Edvardsen Haugan.
The winches will be integrated with the vessel’s energy, automation and control systems to coordinate deck machinery, propulsion and dynamic positioning during anchor-handling operations.
Kongsberg Maritime said it has worked with SALT Design, SBM Offshore and Solstad Offshore on the vessel’s development since 2023. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2029.
