Lehmann Marine has won the largest order in its history with a deal to supply 3.8MWh battery systems for Hamburg’s first fully electric ferries.

The systems will power HADAG’s first fully electric passenger ferries, built by SET Schiffbau, modernising the fleet and cutting port emissions.

“This project demonstrates that high-performance battery systems are now a proven and practical solution for the emission-free operation of passenger vessels.”
Order milestone
The order, the largest in Lehmann Marine’s history, centres on its modular CUBE energy storage system, which is already deployed across multiple vessel types worldwide.
Designed with high safety standards, long service life and a maintenance-friendly architecture, the platform enables straightforward integration across diverse hull designs while simplifying onboard servicing requirements.
Each Type 2030e ferry, which are due to commence operations in 2028, will measure around 30 metres in length with an eight-metre beam and capacity for 250 passengers.
With 3.8 MWh of installed capacity per vessel, the electric ferry configuration supports quiet, fully emission-free harbour operations under demanding port service conditions, directly addressing port emissions and improving environmental performance.
Lehmann Marine said the collaboration with SET Shipyard and HADAG reflects a shared commitment to sustainable maritime mobility through advanced vessel propulsion technologies.
Last year the company scaled up its battery portfolio with a new modular lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for maritime.
The AQUBE battery system has a continuous 2C charge/discharge rate and can be scaled up or down according to the requirements of the vessel.
