A £101 million (€117 million) contracted has been awarded to contractors for the next stage of one the UK’s most significant flood-defence projects.

The Bridgwater Tidal Barrier Scheme was first identified as necessary following serious flooding on the Somerset Levels in 2012-14, when homes, farmland and civil infrastructure were deluged for weeks.
