2019 Winners
From a self-propelled floating work platform to a hybrid electric propulsion system, this year’s winners were more innovative than ever before – and are deservedly celebrated at a glittering awards ceremony.

SPIRIT OF INNOVATION AWARD WINNER:

The overall winner of the Spirit of Innovations award absolutely exemplifies the innovative ethos and practical value which is at the heart of Seawork: it is exactly the kind of forward-thinking product that people who attend shows such as this are interested in, and it ingeniously fills a gap in the market.
MARITIME PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR WINNER:
MARK RANSON
“NATIONAL WORKBOAT ASSOCIATION”
A key figure in the industry, Mark has worked as Secretary and subsequently the Chief Executive of the National Workboat Association for over 8 years. Through his drive and commitment, he has worked tirelessly to make the industry a safer place, supporting the development of safety standards through regular safety forums and initiatives.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER:
JOHN BONAFOUX
“BMT”
John’s lifetime commitment and dedication to BMT has seen the company, which started with two employees, grow to an over 125 strong team. John has had a long and distinguished career within the ship-building and design industry,and his impact, ethos and drive to always move forward will be felt at BMT for many years to come.
M&CCE BEST PROJECT AWARD WINNER:
KAYMAC MARINE AND CIVIL ENGINEERING
“SWANSEA TAWE BARRAGE PROJECT”
The Kaymac Swansea Tawe Barrage project deployed a wide range of skills and services in adverse conditions, which were delivered on time and in budget. The project is a clear achievement and shows the depth of marine civil engineering offerings.
YOUNG PERSON’S DEVELOPMENT AWARD WINNER:
LAUREN HOUNSOME
“NEWCASTLE SOUTH SHIELDS MARINE SCHOOL”
With a clear vision for a career afloat, the judges were impressed with Lauren’s dedication and commitment to developing both her career and education within the maritime industry. Lauren’s plan is to use her bursary to support her studies at South Shields Marine School.
MARITIME SUSTAINABILITY AWARD WINNER:
RE SOILSTONE
“SOILSTONE SUSTAINABLE COASTAL EMBANKMENT”
Soilstone’s use of processed recycled plastic as a sustainable infrastructure system for water resource and land conservation development is a perfect example of outstanding focus in environmental and sustainability efforts.
